COMPOSITION 10: ''Would you like to be a celebrity?''

Composition 10

Being a celebrity is anyone’s dream nowadays. But it comes with its advantages and disadvantages which can make life very difficult sometimes.

On the one hand, famous people are usually very rich so they can have everything they want such as big houses or expensive cars and clothes. What’s more, they can travel anywhere and spend their holidays in the best hotels in the world.

On the other hand, a disadvantage is that you can be recognized by everyone in the street and that can be annoying. In addition, you lose your privacy and you won’t live a quiet and safe life. Besides, celebrity fans sometimes become obsessed and your life can be in danger.

To sum up, being a celebrity may be nice but not an easy thing to live with. I personally enjoy living a private life and not put my life in danger.

COMPOSITION 09: ''Advantages and disadvantages of living in a rural area''

Composition 09

Living in a rural area may be a dream come true for some people. However, rural life has both positive and negative sides.

On the one hand, there are lots of good things about living in a rural area. For instance, it provides cleaner air which means better breathing and smaller risk of respiratory illnesses. What’s more, you will be more relaxed, so your mental health will improve.

On the other hand, the main problem is that many villages don’t have the necessary facilities, such as good roads, schools, and hospitals. In addition, there aren’t many shops either, so you have to drive a long distance to get to a supermarket. Furthermore, job opportunities are much smaller than in the city.

In conclusion, a rural area is an ideal place to live if you are looking for peace, simplicity and harmony with nature. I prefer living in a city at the moment, but I’m sure that when I get older, I will choose the countryside

COMPOSITION 08: ''What kind of job would you like to have in the future?''

Composition 08

I have a lot of dreams for the future. As a career, I would like to become a doctor. Medicine is a very honorable profession since it seeks to help those who need it.

I have always enjoyed Science and I’m very good at it. Ever since I was a child, I have been fascinated by the human body and the diseases that affect it. Besides, my father works as a Pediatrician and being a doctor like him has always been my dream.

Working as a doctor would let me express my love for patients, and allow me to apply my Science skills. My favorite specialties are cardiology and plastic surgery.

Although becoming a doctor is a hard task nowadays, I strongly believe this is the best job for me because it combines my love for Science with the challenge of saving people’s lives.

5th Quality Comment: '' Polyglots and Frontliners''

A polyglot is a person who speaks several languages. There is no specific number of languages that one needs to speak to be considered a polyglot.

On the one hand, being a polyglot has a lot of benefits. Experts say that language learning is one of the most practical and effective ways to exercise our brain. In addition, it delays the effects of diseases associated with aging, such as Dementia or Alzheimer. What’s more, learning other languages can bring many job opportunities for you in other countries.

On the other hand, there are disadvantages, too. Mixing languages can be one of them. It is very common to see people start a sentence with one language and then finish it with another.
Moreover, learning several languages takes a time commitment. This means you might not be able to spend time with your friends or do other activities.

To sum up, being a polyglot brings an opportunity for a better life. You will be able to understand other cultures, expand your business opportunity and enjoy every single benefit of it!

Spring is such a wonderful season! The temperature rises slowly, the days are longer and sunnier and the air smells fresh. In spring, everything is coming back to life after a cold winter season.

As the spring arrives, the nature looks adorable and amazing, there are new leaves on trees and new flowers start blooming. The refreshing nature gives a good feeling and our body and mind start feeling fresh and energetic.

Spring certainly brings with it many health benefits. It increases the motivation to do exercise which can improve our mental and physical health. What’s more, it can replace feelings of depression or anxiety caused by the winter season, with fresh and positive energy.

In conclusion, spring is certainly my favorite season of the year. A lot of activities can be easily carried out in spring due to the beautiful comfortable weather at this time of the year

3rd Quality Comment: ''GRANADA FC, our local heroes!!!''

Granada FC is a Spanish football club in the city of Granada, which plays in the Spanish League. The club was founded in 1931, so they have just celebrated 90 years of history this year, on April 14th.

The club is doing a great season this year in the Spanish League. They have won many matches so far. Currently, they are in the 8th position in the League after winning against Barcelona this Thursday.

However, they were eliminated from the European League two weeks ago after losing against Manchester United. Fortunately, they are doing a good season in the League which can help them qualify in the next season’s competition.

To sum up, we can say that a brave Granada made history this year achieving its first victory in the Camp Nou. I’m a football supporter and Granada is my second favorite football team, after Real Madrid.

"The Adventures of Tom Sawyer," written in 1876, is one of the most quoted works of the American author Mark Twain. The novel has elements of humour, satire and social criticism, and is recommended to both children and adults. Children can enjoy the adventure story, and adults can appreciate the satire.

The story of Tom Sawyer takes place in the imaginary town called St. Petersburg, on the banks of the Mississippi River. The main character is a boy named Tom Sawyer who lives with his aunt Polly and his younger half-brother Sid. Tom stands out for his intelligent, wild and humorous nature and is a person who can overcome any problem. He even falls in love and gets ‘’engaged’’ twice.

Tom gets bored at school and he is always looking for more exciting ways to spend his time. Along with his friends Joe Harper and Huckleberry Finn, Tom runs away to live a pirate’s life on Jackson's Island, look for buried treasure and track down some real robbers.

All in all, ‘’The Adventures of Tom Sawyer’’ is an enjoyable reading because of its exciting action and great characters. The story’s main theme is the joy of childhood when the world is full of wonders and children are free of the heavy responsibilities of adulthood.

Comment 21

’’Jane Eyre’’ by Charlotte Bronte is one of the best books you can ever read. The setting for this novel is in the northern England countryside and the fictitious villages of Gateshead Hall, Lowood, Millcote, and Moor House during the 19th century. In this novel, we get to recognize the conflicts between love and independence, conscience and passion, and the struggle of a young girl and woman to maintain her self-esteem.

Concerning the author, Charlotte Bronte was an English novelist and poet, and the eldest of three Bronte sisters who were all writers. Born in Thornton, Yorkshire, in 1816, Charlotte's father was an Irish Anglican clergyman. After Charlotte's mother died of cancer in 1821, the clergyman and also father had no time to care for his daughters. Therefore, in August of 1824, he sent Charlotte with her two sisters to the Clergy Daughter's School at Cowan Bridge in Lancashire. This school became the basis for Lowood School in the novel Jane Eyre. Bronte then continued her education at Roe Head in Mirfield 1831-1832 and became a teacher there between 1835-1838. During the period 1843-1844, Charlotte attended a language school in Brussels, Belgium, where she fell in love with a married professor at the school. This life experience is strongly shown in Jane Eyre in the relationship between Jane and Mr. Rochester at Thornfield Hall.

The main character of the story is Jane Eyre, a nine-year-old orphan, who is being raised by her maternal aunt, Mrs. Reed. The story begins with Jane telling her life story in the first person. She relates how as an orphan since being a baby, she has been raised by her maternal uncle's wife, Mrs. Reed. Recently she has been treated very cruelly both physically and emotionally by her aunt and cousins. Later, her aunt decides to send Jane to a boarding school for orphans at Lowood School. After being a model student and surviving a typhoid epidemic at the school during her first year, Jane graduates from Lowood six years later and stays two more years as a teacher.

Later, shortly after finding work as a governess at Thornfield Hall, Jane starts to find some real happiness in life. She is entrusted with educating the ward of the master of Thornfield Hall, Mr. Rochester, a man of about 40. After formally meeting Mr. Rochester and numerous hours spent talking together, Jane truly falls in love with him. However, a series of bizarre and spooky events occur at Thornfield Hall which forces Jane to leave and seek her fortune in another place.

All in all, ‘’Jane Eyre’’ is an exciting and captivating love story. What’s more, the early sequences, in which Jane is sent to a boarding school in Lowood, are based on the author's own experiences, which makes the story even more interesting.

Composition 06: ''Advantages and disadvantages of having pets''

 Composition 06

Pets are humans' best friends. Most people get pets to keep them company, to protect their home or just because they love animals.

Having pets has a lot of benefits for their owners. Walking a dog, for example, can provide both the human and the dog with exercise, fresh air and social interaction. What's more, pets help reduce loneliness or can be used for emotional therapy in children and elderly people.

However, having pets is not an easy job. It is a big responsibility and we have to dedicate them a significant part of our time. Pets are usually pretty messy and we have to clean the house more often. In addition, pets can sometimes be a source of disturbance during the night. There are dogs barking and that can annoy our neighbours.

In conclusion, despite several disadvantages of having pets, animals are extremely beneficial for us. It is important to remember that pets are not only good friends but also a responsibility for us and we must take good care of them.

Composition 05: ''My ideal home''

Composition 05

Home is the place where we spend most of our time when we are not at school, at the university or at work. Home is the place where you feel secure, loved and respected.

Looking at it from the outside, a home is just a building, but on the inside, it is a lot more than that. Most of us like our own house, whether it is small or big, new or old. That is because we are emotionally attached to it, being the place where we were born and raised.

Apart from that, a relaxed and healthy environment is really important for me and, because of that, I would like to live in a quiet place, far from the city noise and pollution. My ideal house must be comfortable and bright. Its design should include, among others, one spacious living room with a modern fireplace and a huge sofa. What’s more, I would love to have my own bedroom with a private bathroom, since I’ve been always sharing the bedroom and the bathroom. In addition, my ideal home would include a gym and a big dressing room.

To conclude, everyone dreams of an ideal home to live in. Even if we don’t have a big new house, if we feel safe, calm and loved there, that is the place called home.

Comment 20: ''Year of challenges''

Comment 20

Challenges are part of our everyday life. Facing up challenges makes us stronger and more responsible as it gives us the experience we need in life.

Challenges come in different forms. For some, the challenge is to get good grades in school, for others, it is winning the battle against a health problem. No matter what the problem is, it’s important to remember that there is almost always a solution to it.

My personal challenges this year are pretty obvious. As I am studying the second year of Bachillerato, my wish is to get the highest grades ever. That will help me sign up for the medical university that I wish to study at to become a very good surgeon. Besides, as I am going to be 18 this summer, I have to be more responsible, face situations with more maturity and make good decisions for my future.

What I do know for sure, is that everybody’s challenge this year is getting over the coronavirus pandemic. We have been living a year forced to maintain social distance, wear a mask and comply with a lot of rules. Fortunately, the vaccine against this virus is here and hopefully we will overcome this challenge soon.

To conclude, life is full of challenges. Challenging ourselves makes us stronger and more responsible and facing challenges is a way to prove ourselves what we are capable of.

Comment 19: ''Sleeping like a log''

Comment 19

Sleeping is essential in our lives and if we suffer sleep disorders, it can cause us severe health problems. Millions of people around the world suffer from a sleep disorder nowadays.

On the one hand, more and more young people are having sleep problems. There are many types of sleep disorders such as sleep apnea, insomnia, nightmares, and night terrors. However, one of the main reasons why it affects young people is due to the continuous use of mobile phones and tablets. Blue light emitted by smartphones and tablets is known to reduce the natural production of melatonin, the hormone that makes us feel sleepy.

On the other hand, there has been a pronounced increase in cases of anxiety and sleep disorders among mothers due to the coronavirus lockdown. Social isolation, loss of employment, financial problems, fear of getting infected with coronavirus and home-schooling all contributed to the trend. Researches found that women, especially those aged 16-34, had experienced a deterioration in their mental health during the pandemic much more than men.

In conclusion, we have seen that anyone can suffer from a sleep disorder. Sleep is very important when trying to have good health, so it is essential if we all live a more relaxed and healthy life.

Although we are going to spend our holidays marked by the virus, it shouldn´t affect our Christmas spirit. It´s the season when we should all put up a Christmas tree, decorate the house, prepare the traditional food and listen to Christmas carols. What’s more, we can see and talk to our family and friends through video calls.

Composition 04- A review: Anuel's concert

 Anuel' s concert

It's been a long time since I went to a live concert. Fortunately, my step brother got two tickets to go and see Anuel acting in a live concert in Nevada Shopping; Granada. Anuel is a Puerto Rican rapper and singer and he's considered a pioneer of the Latin Pop movement.

I wasn't a fan of Anuel, and I only went because my step brother asked me. Although I was feeling tired, I went to the concert with him and some friends.

When we arrived, we had to queue outside for a long time because there were a lot of fans. Once we entered, what I liked most was the magnificent atmosphere. The lights didn't stop turning on and off and the sound was great. The crowd went wild when Anuel and his dancers appeared on stage. Even though I'm not a fan of Anuel, I must say that his performance was brilliant and I really enjoyed it.

At the end, everyone had a great time. I'd recommend Anuel to anyone who likes rap music. Even if you aren't a fan of Anuel, make sure you go and see him live. You will enjoy it a lot!

Composition 03:'' Advantages and disadvantages of using Internet''

 Composition 03

Nowadays, most of the people use Internet to search for information, shop online or do online work. There is no doubt that Internet has made our life become easier and more convenient. But, what are the advantages and disadvantages of using Internet?

On the one hand, we can use the Internet to communicate with people around the world, making new friends and learning about different cultures, without having to leave our house. What’s more, the Internet is very useful for students because they can use it to search for information for their school projects or learn new things about the subjects they are interested in. Another advantage is online shopping, which is very popular nowadays. It’s an easy and fast way to shop, compare prices online and get very good deals.

However, the Internet has its dark side, too. Spending a lot of time on the Internet can be very addictive, especially for teenagers. There are lots of video games on the Internet that contain violence and that may have a negative influence on young people. Moreover, cyberbullying is another issue to consider.

In conclusion, I think that Internet is very useful nowadays, but we should use it wisely. It is very important to control children when they surf the Internet in order to avoid Internet addiction or cyberbullying.

Comment 17: ''He' ll still be there, as usual !''

Comment 17

Rafael Nadal is a Spanish professional tennis player currently ranked world No.2, after Novak Djokovic, in men’s singles tennis by the ATP. There is plenty of evidence that Nadal is unstoppable on clay and he proved that again recently, winning his 13th Roland Garros title.

From a very young age, Nadal was passionate about sports and played both football and tennis. His uncle, Toni Nadal, has been his tennis trainer since he was 4. At the age of 8, he won an under-12 regional tennis championship which made his uncle intensify training and encourage him to continue playing tennis instead of football. At age 12, Nadal won the Spanish and European tennis titles in his age group. In 2004, he was a member of the Spanish National Team that won the Davis Cup and a year later, he won his first Roland Garros at the French Open. In 2016, in his hometown of Manacor, Rafa Nadal inaugurated his own academy, where he aims to share everything he has learnt over his career with the young students.

This last Sunday, we could watch Nadal winning his 13th Roland Garros in Paris. With his incredible victory against Djokovic, Rafa has now broken a list of records in the tennis history books. What’s more, he has now equalized Roger Federer’s record of 20 grand slams.

To sum up, Rafael Nadal is one of the best tennis players of the 21st century and is considered a hero because of his tennis achievements. I think he is an excellent example for young sportsmen to determine goals and achieve them. He is a great champion, a master of clay!

Composition 01- A narrative: ''My first date''

Composition 01

Last week, I was invited to a party at John's house. There, I met an incredible girl called Mary and, after a short speech, I immediately asked her out. As soon as she accepted my proposal, we decided to meet at the local park the next day.

I was so nervous that day that I nearly arrived late. I decided to wear my best clothes and, the previous day, I had gone to the hairdresser to have my hair cut. When I arrived, she was sitting on the bench waiting for me. Then, we walked around the park talking about ourselves. The weather became worse, and we decided to go to a pub afterwards. There, I invited her for a drink and we had a nice conversation, where we learned a lot more about each other. Later on, we danced. We had a great time at the pub, so we agreed to meet again at the weekend.

Once we left the pub, I called a taxi and I took her to her house. Just before she left the taxi, I asked her for her phone number and she gave it to me. When I got home, I called her to make sure she had my phone number, too. I wished her goodnight and I told her I was really looking forward to meeting her again.

Comment 16: ''Time to leave Britons!! Brexit is here.''

Brexit is an abbreviation of “British exit,” and refers to the UK’s plan to leave the European Union. It’s the first time a member officially decides to leave the EU.

The Brexit process began with the United Kingdom voting to leave the European Union in a referendum in 2016. At 11pm GMT on 31st January 2020, Britain officially left the EU after 47 years of membership. Specialists say that leaving the EU will allow Britain to re-establish itself as a truly independent nation.

Nobody knows how the Brexit will turn out yet. The majority say it may have a negative impact on the economy, on jobs, homes and trade relationships with other countries. However, supporters of Brexit think that it would be in the best interest of other European countries to re-establish free trade.

To sum up, the UK is no longer an EU member. Being the first country to exit the EU, it is yet to be seen the consequences that this will have for the country and its citizens.
