Comment 12- Dickens & Christmas

Dickens & Christmas

Charles Dickens was born on 7th of February 1812. He was the second child of 8. His family moved to London in 1822 and at the age of 12, Charles had to start to work on a Blacking Factory labelling bottles 11 hours a day. His father was sent to prison and he visited him every Sunday. In 1827 he began to work as a solicitor´s clerk. Later, in 1831, he began a journalistic career; writing became his passion. In 1835 he meets Catherine, they fell in love and got married. In 1842, they travelled to America. When he was 44, he bought a very big house and got divorced because he had an affair with an actress called Helen . In 1865, he had a train crash while he was returning from Paris. He continued writing and later in 1870, his health began to fail and he died at home on 9th June at the age of 58. He´s buried in Westminster Abbey.

About the Christmas Carol novel, I really enjoyed reading it because the story was very interesting and entertaining. The story is about a mean old man, called Scrooge, who only cared about making money. He didn´t like Christmas and his life changed when he recieved the visit of three ghosts, on Christmas Eve. The ghosts showed him his past, his present and his future . He didn´t like his future so he decided to become a better person helping poor people and spending Christmas with his nephew.

A Christmas Carol- by Charles Dickens

The story is about a mean old man, called Ezebener Scrooge, who only cared about making money and didn´t like Christmas at all. On Christmas Eve, he is visited by the ghost of his dead business partner, Jacob Marley, and he gets very scared. Jacob´s ghost told Scrooge that he was there to warn him that three spirits will come to visit him. And so it happened! The ghosts from the Past, from the Present and from the Yet to Come appeared that night  to show Scrooge his past, his present and how his future is going to be if he doesn´t change. Finally, Scrooge gets sad and very scared at the same time and he decides to change. When Christmas Day finally arrives, he becomes a better person, wishing ¨A merry Christmas to everybody¨and helping poor people.

What was the best of 2018 for me? Well, one of the best moments I lived in 2018 was my school trip to Dublin, which was an amazing experience for me because I visited lots of places, I improved my English and I had a good time with the family where I lived during one week. Another great moment of 2018 is when I received my B1 English certificate. I was really happy! As a reward for that, my mum bought me the last Playstation console and a gaming chair. That was a dream come true!

In addition to that, I finished school with very good grades and we all went on a summer trip to Italy, where I had a good time with my relatives. Visiting Milano was exciting!

To sum up, I can say that my 2018 was a very good year!
