Comment 13: '' Influencers in our society''

Influencers are people who can influence the decisions of their followers as they have the power to persuade us to buy things they advertise in different areas, such as fashion, beauty, gaming, technology, travel, cooking, etc. Social media influencers are very popular among teenagers nowadays.

To begin with, it is estimated that about 40% of the world’s population uses social media. Teenagers spend a large part of their time watching, giving likes to influencers' posts and commenting on them. One of the biggest platforms is Instagram and influencers use it to post about their everyday life, stay connected with their followers, or promote different kinds of products. Teenagers choose to follow the influencers for entertainment, information or advice. Depending on how many posts they make and how many likes they get, influencers can win a lot of money.

On the other hand, the impact of social media influencers on teenagers may have negative consequences, too. There are lots of influencers who practise bad habits, such as smoking, drinking or using inappropriate language. What’s more, influencers’ content may also affect teenagers’ psychological well-being.

All in all, it is shown that influencers are very popular among teenagers and that they make a good profit out of it. The more they post, the more followers they get. Being an easy way to make money, it is no surprise that more and more people are keen to become influencers nowadays.

Comment 11: ''Big Bottle: a typically Spanish phenomenon''

‘’The Big Bottle’’ is a typically Spanish phenomenon among teenagers and young adults. They meet up in public areas to socialize while drinking alcohol, smoking and listening to music. The activity usually begins around 11 p.m. and lasts until the next morning. But what could be the consequences of this activity?

On the one hand, the main problem is that many young people experience drinking at very early ages. Researches show that many teenagers start drinking at the age of 14. As a result, underage drinking is a serious health problem worldwide. Every year, thousands of young people under the age of 20 die as a result of underage drinking. Young people who drink heavily may risk serious alcohol problems, such as alcoholism and important effects on their brain, their liver and their body growth and development, in general. In addition, they risk other adverse consequences, including risky sexual activity and poor performance at school.

On the other hand, ‘’the big bottle’’ participants leave public areas vandalized and full of rubbish. What’s more, the noise can disturb surrounding residents who get frustrated because they cannot take any action against drunken people, as these can turn very violent.

To sum up, ‘’the big bottle’’ phenomenon is a dangerous activity for both young drinkers and the society. Alcohol is widely available nowadays and it is the main cause of car crashes, homicides, suicides and sexual violence. Although drinking in the streets is prohibited in our country, I believe this phenomenon is a serious social problem because it is still very common among us.

Are boot camps a good idea for teenagers?

The increase of violent behaviour among youth arround the world has led to the implementation of a new rehabilitation method called boot camp. Boot camps are places to send young people who have personal problems and behavioural issues. But, are boot camps a good idea? Personally, I think lots of young people can be helped by boot camps, nowadays.

On the one hand, boot camps are a good idea because they help to improve teenagers' personal discipline by doing military activities run by former soldiers and experts in outdoor survival. Moreover, boot camps are a good way to keep teenagers away from mobile phones, video consoles and social media.

On the other hand, another advantage of boot camps is that, during their stay, teenagers improve their self- esteem, their confidence and their communication skills. Every evening they discuss values such as honesty, respect, integrity and courage.

Even if many young people find boot camps quite tough at the beginning, it is clear that it is a good idea for those who need to change their behaviour towards their family and the society. As far as I am concerned, a boot camp is a life- changing experience!

Comment 06- Pau Gasol says Spanish teens are not fit enough

Obesity is a complex disease involving an excessive amount of body fat. Obesity isn't just a cosmetic concern. It is a medical problem that increases your risk of other diseases and health problems.

Firstly, factors that may contribute to weight gain among children include genes, eating habits, physical inactivity, TV, computer, phone, and other screen time, sleep habits, medical conditions or medications. Over the past four decades, obesity rates in children and adolescents have soared globally, and continue to do so in many countries. Nowadays, most of the teenagers spend more and more time with their mobile phones, having a sedentary life and eating junk food.

Secondly, being obese as a child comes with a high likelihood of being obese as an adult and the many health consequences that come with it, including the increased risk of diabetes, cardiovascular disease and some cancers.

In my opinion, I think teenagers should do more exercise, have a healthy and balanced diet, in order to prevent obesity and health problems as an adult.

Comment 04- Teenage gambling

Gambling means taking part in any activity or game where you risk money, food & drinks or any valuable objects, in order to win. Studies show that, although many people participate in gambling as a form of recreation or even as a means to gain an income, gambling, like any behavior that involves variation in brain chemistry, can become a harmful, behavioral addiction.

To begin with, there are different types of gambling, such as casino games, bingo, card and table games, internet gambling or lottery. Gambling can easily become a problem that affects not just the person, but also the person’s family and friends. For some people, gambling can become as serious an addiction as drugs, tobacco, or alcohol.

On the other hand, reports show that more and more teenagers are gambling nowadays and most of them are addicted to it. Gambling can be innocent at first, but it can turn from a social behavior to a compulsion and cause problems for teenagers. They develop the urge to keep on gambling despite its harmful negative consequences.

To sum up, gambling is as addictive as drugs or alcohol and it is very important to inform and educate people and especially teenagers about how dangerous it can be for the society.
