Comment 10-Who taught you the most things? Why the mother tongue?

Nowadays, people all over the world study a foreign language like English, Spanish, German or Chinese with the objective of living and working in countries where these languages are spoken. Learning a foreign language benefits everyone.

On the one hand, knowing a foreign language makes it easier to travel or to find a better job. In addition, it can help you understand other cultures when you travel abroad. The art, traditions and culture of any country, can be better understood if you have some knowledge of their language. Moreover, studies have shown that bilingual people are smarter than people who speak only one language. Multilingual people are even smarter. Learning a foreign language helps our brain in many ways. It allows us to make connections faster and remember things better.

On the other hand, learning foreign languages has disadvantages, too, such us the cost of the course and the time it requires. Furthermore, you have to be cautious, because while you are learning other languages, you can forget your mother tongue. When the native language is not maintained, important links to family and other community members may be lost. Until the age of about 12, a person’s language skills are relatively vulnerable to change. Studies have found that even nine-year-olds can almost completely forget their first language when they are removed from their country of birth or if they speak more in a foreign language than their native one. In adults, the first language is unlikely to disappear entirely except in extreme circumstances.

To conclude, there are numerous benefits to learning a foreign language. Travel and work are just two of them. Language skills also make us smarter and better.

Comment 09- Never will I ghost my students!

Halloween is a celebration observed in lots of countries on 31st October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows´Day! How do people celebrate it?

To begin with, Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, attending Halloween costume parties, carving pumpkins into jack-o'-lanterns, lighting bonfires, apple bobbing, divination games, playing pranks, visiting haunted attractions, telling scary stories, and watching horror films. Every garden is decorated with the main symbol of this feast – pumpkin. Usually, it is used to cut funny faces on it and is considered as a repellant from evil spirits. Another most popular Halloween symbol is black color that is why almost every costume includes something black.

Secondly, Halloween continues to be extremely popular with kids of all ages; 85 to 90 percent of children around the world go trick-or-treating or engage in other Halloween festivities every year, and many adults also join in on the fun. In fact, 65 percent of adults between 18 and 34 attended Halloween costume parties or other celebrations.

To sum up, Halloween is very famous all around the world and both children and adults enjoy it!

Comment 08- Listen to Nature

The public awareness campaign, called Nature is Speaking, turns the tables on "saving the planet" and reminds us that it's us humans, not nature, who need saving. ¨Giving nature a voice¨ might make it clear to all of us that the planet will evolve with or without humans, because nature has been around billions of years longer than humans. Are we doing enough to help saving our nature?

Firstly, we all know green spaces bring numerous health benefits. For example, experiences in nature can lead to decreased blood pressure and levels of the stress hormone cortisol, assist with direct attention fatigue, and increase cognitive function. Nature might even buffer the impact of stress.

Secondly, for thousands of years our delicate planet has maintained a perfect balance between land and sea, and provided everything that we, and all the animals that live on it, need. However, warnings about climate change, carbon emissions and our over-use of plastic and waste are to be taken seriously. As a result, many of us are now making an effort to play a part in helping to end the cycle of waste, such as cycling or walking instead of using the car to go to work or to school, recycling our household waste properly or turning off appliances we don’t really need.

In conclusion, our precious planet´s future is looking green as long as we all play a part in helping it get there! All individuals and communities around the world should be taking a stand for future generations and the preservation of human life on Earth.

Comment 07- Can we live without lies?

A lie is an assertion that is believed to be false, typically used with the purpose of deceiving someone. We lie all the time, despite the fact that it costs us considerably more mental effort to lie than to tell the truth. We lie to promote ourselves, protect ourselves and to hurt or avoid hurting others.

On the one hand, lying is extremely stressful. It causes you to be constantly looking over your shoulder and wondering who might be finding you out. You are always running through the lies you have told in your head, trying to keep track of what you have told to which person, and what is the next lie you need to tell. When you are honest, you do not have those worries or the negative consequences of your lies.

On the other hand, according to researches, the average person hears up to 200 lies a day and it is estimated that we lie up to nine times a day. Moreover, lying may seem simple and harmless at first, but just like any addiction, you will soon find yourself trapped in your lies, more than you could have ever imagined.

To sum up, we live in a world full of lies and liars and, in my opinion, I think being honest is very important because it keeps us away from problems and it helps in developing good attributes like kindness, discipline, truthfulness and moral integrity.

Comment 06- Pau Gasol says Spanish teens are not fit enough

Obesity is a complex disease involving an excessive amount of body fat. Obesity isn't just a cosmetic concern. It is a medical problem that increases your risk of other diseases and health problems.

Firstly, factors that may contribute to weight gain among children include genes, eating habits, physical inactivity, TV, computer, phone, and other screen time, sleep habits, medical conditions or medications. Over the past four decades, obesity rates in children and adolescents have soared globally, and continue to do so in many countries. Nowadays, most of the teenagers spend more and more time with their mobile phones, having a sedentary life and eating junk food.

Secondly, being obese as a child comes with a high likelihood of being obese as an adult and the many health consequences that come with it, including the increased risk of diabetes, cardiovascular disease and some cancers.

In my opinion, I think teenagers should do more exercise, have a healthy and balanced diet, in order to prevent obesity and health problems as an adult.

Comment 05- Better as a team!!!

Violence against women (VAW), also known as gender-based violence and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), are violent acts where the victims are primarily or exclusively women or girls. Such violence is often considered a form of hate crime, committed against women or girls specifically because they are female, and can take many forms.

To begin with, violence against women and girls is a problem of pandemic proportions. At least, one out of every three women around the world has been beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime with the abuser usually someone known to her. There are different types of women abuse, such us, violence occurring in the family or domestic unit, physical and mental aggression, emotional and psychological abuse, rape and sexual abuse, crimes committed in the name of honour, female genital and sexual mutilation and other traditional practices harmful to women, such as forced marriages; sexual harassment and intimidation at work and violation of the human rights of women in situations of armed conflict.

Secondly, the best way to end violence against women and girls is to prevent it from happening. Prevention should start early in life, by educating and working with young boys and girls promoting respectful relationships and gender equality. The United Nations has assigned 25th November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. One of the aims of the day is to highlight that the scale and true nature of the issue is often hidden.

In conclusion, violence against women and girls is an unacceptable violation of basic human rights. It is also so widespread that ending it must be a global public health priority.
STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN!!!!

Comment 04- Teenage gambling

Gambling means taking part in any activity or game where you risk money, food & drinks or any valuable objects, in order to win. Studies show that, although many people participate in gambling as a form of recreation or even as a means to gain an income, gambling, like any behavior that involves variation in brain chemistry, can become a harmful, behavioral addiction.

To begin with, there are different types of gambling, such as casino games, bingo, card and table games, internet gambling or lottery. Gambling can easily become a problem that affects not just the person, but also the person’s family and friends. For some people, gambling can become as serious an addiction as drugs, tobacco, or alcohol.

On the other hand, reports show that more and more teenagers are gambling nowadays and most of them are addicted to it. Gambling can be innocent at first, but it can turn from a social behavior to a compulsion and cause problems for teenagers. They develop the urge to keep on gambling despite its harmful negative consequences.

To sum up, gambling is as addictive as drugs or alcohol and it is very important to inform and educate people and especially teenagers about how dangerous it can be for the society.

Comment 03- Talking about tourism, all that glitters is not gold!

Tourism is travelling for pleasure or business and it can be domestic (within the traveller's own country) or international. Many places in the world rely heavily on tourism as a key source of income and employment. But, is tourism harmful?

On the one hand, one of the main advantages of tourism and the reason why it has been promoted so much, especially in developing countries, is that it brings in a lot of money. In addition, tourism provides many jobs because all hotels, bars, shops and restaurants need staff. Moreover, it gives the tourist destinations a chance to show themselves off and raise their profile in the world.

On the other hand, tourism can be harmful, too, because it can often cause environmental damage, such as greenhouse gas emissions from air travel, and lot of waste in popular locations. Tourism contributes to pollution.

In conclusion, tourism could be very important for the development of many countries. However, the increasing tourism activities could damage the environment and cause the value or the nature of different places to be vanished.

Comment 02- Rubbish!!!

Global warming is a huge topic at the moment and one of the reasons is the rubbish we produce. Nearly everything we do leaves behind some kind of waste. Households create ordinary garbage which consists of everyday items we use and then throw away, such as food, plastics, furniture, clothes, bottles, paper, etc. The fact is people produce too much rubbish and protecting the environment should be everybody´s concern today!

To begin with, we should know that the main part of the rubbish is either burned or taken to enormous landfill sites. They are both harmful for the environment! We can help the planet by reusing or recycling household rubbish! Most of the garbage generated in the household can be recycled and reused. For example, organic kitchen waste such as leftover foodstuff, vegetable peels, spoilt or dried fruits and vegetables, plastic, paper and glass are some of the items that can be reused or recycled. We should all have in our homes two or three waste bins: one for paper waste, another one for plastic waste and the last one for organic waste. Sort your rubbish!

In addition, recycling saves energy, reduces rubbish burning and saves natural resources. As recycling saves energy it also reduces greenhouse gas emissions, which helps protect our planet from the climate change.

To sum up, producing less rubbish and recycling waste, have a lot of benefits for both people and the environment.

Comment 01- Climate emergency!!!

Climate change is one of the greatest environmental threats facing the planet. The entire planet is experiencing a climate change and human action is mostly responsible for it. All the changes have an enormous impact on people’s lives and ecosystems.

On the one hand, it has been reported that the average global temperature has raised by 1 degree in the last 30 years. The increasing of global temperature is caused by the increased emissions of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Increases in ocean temperature and the Earth´s surface temperature, widespread melting of snow and ice, and the rising of sea level are some of the evidences regarding climate change.

On the other hand, plastic pollution is another global concern. Plastic pollution is caused due to the accumulation of plastic waste in the environment. It remains in the environment for hundreds of years and causes air, water and land pollution. As a consequence, lots of birds, animals and fishes die due to plastic pollution every year.

All in all, I strongly believe that we shoud all take the appropiate steps to save the planet from the consequences of global warming and pollution. It´s important that we all reduce both air and earth pollution.

COMPOSITION 04

Composition 04
Everyone should learn English

Nowadays, every student has to study English at school as a second language. There are lots of adults studying English in private academies , too. Everyone should learn English because it will help them a lot in the future.

On the one hand, knowing English makes it easier to find a job, to search for information on the Internet or to travel anywhere you want, because English is the most widely spoken language in the world. In addition, it will help you understand other cultures when you travel to other countries. The art, traditions and culture of any country can be better understood if you have some knowledge of the English language.

On the other hand, learning English has some disadvantages, too, such as the cost of the course, if you study it in a private academy, and the time it requires. Moreover, you have to be cautious, because while you are learning English, you can forget your mother tongue. Furthermore, it is good to speak lots of foreign languages, but you have to practise them; if not, you will forget them.

In conclusion, there are advantages and disadvantages of learning English. I think English is very important because it will be very useful for us in the future.

Subject: complaint about food and service

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to complain about a meal we had in your restaurant yesterday.

Our problem started as soon as we arrived at 8 pm yesterday. We had booked a table for two but when we arrived, there were no free tables and we had to wait for more than 30 minutes to sit down. Then, when we decided what to order from the menu, not all the dishes were available, and the fish we ordered tasted awful. In addition, when we told the waiter about that, he was really rude to us.

We had eaten in your restaurant before, but this was the first time we received such bad service. We expected quality food and service but we were completely disappointed. I would like you to improve the quality of your dishes and service. Thank you for your co-operation.

Yours faithfully,
Mr. M. Livaditis

COMPOSITION 02

Alejandro is my best friend and he goes to the same school as me. He´s seventeen years old, one year older than me, and he is quite tall and fit. He´s got dark curly hair and brown eyes. He´s an athletic person and he walks as if he was the owner of the world. That´s why girls find him so irresistible and go after him all the time.

Alejandro is very talkative. In fact, you never get bored with him. He´s very cheerful, too. He always makes his friends feel happy! What I like most is that he´s a very intelligent and generous person, he gets good marks at school and he always helps his classmates whenever they need it.

Although he is popular among his classmates- which is different from me- he always takes the time to ask me about my day. He gives me tips to do better at school.

All in all, I think Alejandro is a great friend who I can always count on.

COMPOSITION 01

The purpose of this social media profile is to describe what my interests are.

One of my main interests is travelling. I like both travelling inside and outside my country. Travelling is a fantastic way to learn new things about their history. I am fortunate to travel every year with my parents, and I enjoy it a lot! One of my favourite countries is Italy. It´s absolutely fascinating!

My other interests are reading and doing yoga. Reading is completely different from yoga, but they both require concentration and help reduce stress levels. Moreover, both reading and yoga improve our mental and physical health. I practise yoga during my summer holidays and I read novels every time I have some free time.

To sum up, I think that all of my interest are healthy and enjoyable and I recommend them to everybody.

COMPOSITION 00

Hi David,

This year I´m going to study really hard because I must be prepared for the Selectivity exam. It´s going to be a hard year for me!
How about you?

Talk to you soon,
Your friend,

Fifth quality comment- Our VIII Study trip to the British-Irish Isles?? Our destination: CAMBRIDGE/LONDON??

We all know that school trips are full of fun, but, have you ever thought of its benefits?

One the one hand, study trips abroad give us the opportunity to improve our personal development, such as confidence, self-esteem, leadership and independent thinking. Moreover, these trips create a stronger connection between the students and their teachers.

On the other hand, through these trips abroad, we get exposed to other cultures and experiences that will make us understand other people´s way of life. Furthermore, we get to visit new countries, explore new cities, their monuments, and find out about their history.

In addition to that, going on a school trip abroad is a great opportunity for us to improve our English skills, because we have to talk to native speakers there. Besides, you will be hosted by a native family in that city. What´s more, you will be attending English classes everyday and at the end , you will be given a degree with the English level you´ve achieved.

Whatever you destination is school trips abroad have lots of benefits for us as students! I speak from experience, last year I went to Dublin with our English teacher and my classmates and we had a great time!

To put it all in a nutshell, I highly recommend this study trip to Cambridge next year because you´ll enjoy it a lot and it will help you improve your English!d

Fourth quality comment- DIGITAL ADDICTION, a REAL problem to solve

Nowadays, technology is very present in our lives and both children and adults use it a lot! But do you know that the overuse of it can cause digital addiction?

Although the use of both tech-gadgets and services has many positive impacts, the overuse of it has negative effects on people.

One the one hand, the addictive internet use has negative impacts on mental health. It can lead to psychiatric disorders like depression, bipolar disorders or attention deficit disorder. Moreover, symptoms of a digital addiction can include a short temper, apathy to your life and the lives of those around you and increased anxiety.

On the other hand, digital addiction is a serious problem nowadays among youth, because they can´t stay away from their mobile phones, social media or video games. Besides, they become really irritable and anxious if the internet connection is slow or if parents unplug their devices. Teenagers can develop sleep disorders, cardiovascular disease, weight gain and a decrease on their academic, athletic and social activities. The only advantage of using technology amoung young people is that they can improve their digital skills at school, blogging or doing projects.

To fix digital addiction, the first step is to be aware that there is a problem with our digital life. In addition to the symptoms listed above, ask yourself whether you feel like you can't be without your phone, or always need to have a screen pointed at your face. If so, there may be an issue.

To sum up, I think we should all be aware of the overuse of technology in order to avoid digital addiction. Technology has its advantages like searching information, doing projects, online shopping, etc...,but has disadvantages too, as we have seen above.

Third quality comment- Sleep disorders

Nowadays, many people have sleeping disorders because of their daily lifestyle. The students, for example, have to study more and more every day and that is one of the reasons they don´t get enough sleep. Besides, spending a lot of time on their mobile phones using social media, has a negative effect on their sleep and obviously on their health, too.

Sleep is an important factor for our body functions. It is recommended to sleep at least 7 to 8 hours in order to have a good brain functioning and being able to concentrate on our studies and our daily duties. On young people, it is shown that not sleeping enough has a direct effect on their health, on their behaviour or socialising with other people.

Moreover, other causes of sleep disorders are: insomnia, snoring, sleep apnea, stress and anxiety. In these situations, it is recommended that we visit a doctor and get a proper treatment.

To end up, I think that sleep is very important in our life and we should try to get enough sleep at night if we want to be healthy and have a good life performance. Adults should try to be less stressed and teenagers should use electronic devices less.

Second quality comment- BILINGUALISM, FAKE NEWS... All that glitters is not gold.

Resultado de imagen de bilingualism
Nowadays, most people in the world speak more than one language and even some of them are  or multilingual, depending on how many languages you speak. Being bilingual or speaking more than one language has many social, psychological and lifestyle advantages.

One the one hand, many studies have found that being bilingual has positive effects on the brain, because a bilingual person is constantly switching from one language to the other, it keeps our brain active and it can also reduce the risk of a stroke. Besides, bilingualism seems to protect against dementia.

On the other hand, being bilingual gives us more posibilities to find a job in the future because languages are very valued in lots of companies which work with other international companies around the world. Moreover, speaking more than one language is very useful when we travel. Being able to comunicate with people when we visit another country gives us the opportunity to meet new people and learn about their hobbies or their culture.

In my opinion, speaking more than one language has lots of health and employment benefits. Bilingualism keeps us mentally fit, it makes us more open-minded and it gives us a better chance on getting a job. So, no matter how old we are, it is never too late to learn another language!

First quality comment- Some advice for your fellow students 2019

Some advice for your fellow students 2019

I´m about to finish 4ºESO this year and I must say that I found it a bit difficult to get used to Alberto´s teaching system, because I had another English teacher in the past three years. But is Alberto´s system that difficult?

First of all, I want to make clear that English is a very nice language and it will help you a lot in the future if you want to go to the university or search for a job. To be good at English you have to like it and study it everyday! Besides, the more you study, the better marks you will get!

Secondly, in order to pass English with Alberto you must follow his pieces of advice from the begining of the year until the end of the 3rd term. If I were you, I would follow his pieces of advice! He will ask you to prepare a folder with different sections: one for maps of UK and USA, one for the writing exercises you will have to do during the year, one for homework and blog exercises, and one for the exams. You must hand in the folder the next day after each exam. The folder helps you to keep everything tidy and you can always revise it before the exams. Be careful, because Alberto never says the exact date of the exams!!! Another thing you should take into consideration is that you should do all the writing exercises during each term and make comments on your teacher´s blog, correct them and then upload them on your blog. In both 1st and 2nd term you must make 10 comments and in the 3rd one, 5 quality comments. All this will increase your mark at the end of each term! In addition to all that, you´ll be doing projects and controls about the readers, so you´d better make time to read every book that the teacher tells you. Other important pieces of advice I can give you are: do your homework everyday to keep up with the class, always participate in class, do the reader sheets every term, keep your notebook tidy and clean, with all the pages numbered. If you do all that, it will increase your final term mark.

In the end, learning English with Alberto wasn´t that difficult! I got used to his teaching system and I always followed his instructions! Listen to me, do everything that your teacher asks you and you will pass English! Otherwise, you will have to study during the summer and you won´t enjoy your vacation at all!

To sum up, English is not so difficult to pass.

Writing 18- Telling a story

Writing 18
Hi John,

How are things? I´m writing again to tell you what happened to me last weekend. I went to the beach with some friends and we were swimming and playing when, suddenly, a dolphin jumped from the water right next to us. Obviously, we got so scared and started to scream. We all swam towards the shore. Fortunately, it was just a scare. Nothing happened to us. Eventually, we waited to see if the dolphin appeared again, but it didn´t. I suppose it got scared, too.
What´s new about you?

Your friend,
Mike

Helen: Oh, I see. Don´t worry. I´ll help you if you like. What needs doing?
Mike: Well, first I have to organise the music. Could you give me some ideas?
Helen: Shall I land you my Ipod? It has got lots of party playlists on it.
Mike: That would be great, thanks!
Helen: And what else do you need?
Mike: I don´t know what food to buy. I was thinking of some snacks and drinks but, will that be enough?
Helen: Shall I prepare some sandwiches? And you´ll come and pick them up?
Mike: OK, thanks.
Helen: Great!
Mike: Would you come with me to the supermarket and help me buy everything I need?
Helen: Of course!
Mike: Thank you so much, Helen! You are a great help.

Writing 16- Describing a celebration

Writing 16

Every year my parents celebrate their wedding anniversary on 15th August. Last year, some friends of theirs decided to make them a surprise party with family and friends. It was at their house, because it´s big enough for a party. Besides, they have an outdoor swimming pool. I helped them putting up decorations and getting everything ready.

When my parents arrived, they thought they were invited for a barbecue. First, we had lunch- my parents´friends made a great barbecue! The big surprise for my parents was after lunch when we played a video with their wedding and we brought a huge cake and Champaigne. My parents got very excited and couldn´t believe what was happening. Later on, everyone danced. I wanted to dance too, but I was too tired and I decided to go to bed.

The day of the party was so hot that, at the end, everybody dived into the swimming pool. The party was so fantastic and everybody had a good time!

Comment 20- Alternative medicine

Comment 20

Apitherapy is an alternative form of illness treatment. It contends that bee venom holds therapeutic value in treating serious illness and that it is a viable alternative to dangerous pharmaceutical drugs. Bee venom contains about 40 different healing components, one of which is melittin, a compound identified as an anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic element. Honeybee venom helps to alleviate serious conditions like multiple sclerosis, arthritis, and lupus.

Alternative medicine covers a broad range of treatments and is also referred to as complimentary alternative medicine (CAM). Some of the most well-known alternative treatments include acupuncture, aromatherapy, chiropractic, herbal medicine, homeopathy, massage, meditation, therapeutic touch, and yoga.

Traditional medicine is defined as the medical treatment based on the use of drugs and surgery to treat symptoms of illness. It treats the body part or symptom of the disease and the doctors prescribe medicine to control the symptoms.

I think that our health depends heavily on our lifestyle choises. A healthy lifestyle is the greatest defense against disease, such as: proper nutrition, adequate sleep, exercise, emotional and spiritual balance, etc. Healthy choices each and every day lead to a longer and stronger life!

Comment 19- Year of the Pig

Comment 19

2019 is a Year of the Pig according to the Chinese zodiac, and it's an Earth Pig year. Years of the Pig include 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019, and 2031. In Chinese astrology, each year belongs to a Chinese zodiac animal according to the 12-year cycle.

Men born in the Pig year are optimistic and gentle. They are not the best with money. They trust others easily and this can cause them to lose a fortune. They are also quiet, they love learning and they are always there to help other people.

Women born in the Pig year are full of excitement. They attend social events whenever possible and treat everyone genuinely. Sometimes, they are over-friendly and forget to give others personal space. They also have good fortune with wealth. At home, they are highly organized.

Pigs in the Year of the Pig (2019), may find luck in some areas of their life, but others will require hard work to avoid potential pitfalls. In order to bring as much good luck as possible to your year, it’s a good idea to attend happy events such as weddings or family gatherings.

To sum up, this year is about favoring the characteristics of Pigs in order to succeed, but for Pigs, to whom this comes naturally, they will have a difficult year and must practice patience and discipline.

Comment 18- Any broken-down or worn-out items? Remember to upcycle them!

Comment 18

Nowadays, most of our schools are bilingual. They teach foreign languages from an early age, because their objective is to see students fluent in two foreign languages by the time they finish secondary school. English is the first foreign language they normally teach, and French, the second.

But do you know the pro´s and con´s of a bilingual school?
On the one hand, in a bilingual school, one of the main advantages is the balance of languages. Children are educated in both languages on a daily basis which gives them the opportunity to naturally speak and think in the languages. Children who go to a bilingual school will be taught in two languages and therefore learn to think in both.

On the other hand, bilingual schools can be expensive because most of them are international or private, therefore tuition fees can be quite expensive. Moreover, not all bilingual schools offer a balanced education in both languages because in many there is a dominant language, then a second language. For a child to really have a bilingual education, it needs to be consistent throughout the years.

To end up, I think that learning foreign languages will help us a lot in the future to find a job, or when we travel or search information on the Internet.
