Comment 17- What really matters in life

Comment 17

Loneliness can – and does – affect anyone, of any age. Loneliness takes many forms and whatever the cause is, it can lead to depression and a serious decline in physical health and wellbeing. People can become socially isolated for a variety of reasons, such as getting older or weaker, no longer being the hub of their family, leaving the workplace, the deaths of spouses and friends, or through disability or illness.

Older people are especially vulnerable to loneliness and social isolation and it can have a serious effect on health.

Facing up to loneliness, in whatever form it appears, is an important way to administer self-care when your body is telling you that you need it. There are ways to overcome loneliness, even if you live alone and find it hard to get out: smile, date nice people, invite friends for tea, keep in touch by phone, use social media or travel around the world.

Remember that what really matters in life is to go on and keep on living!
