A lie is an assertion that is believed to be false, typically used with the purpose of deceiving someone. We lie all the time, despite the fact that it costs us considerably more mental effort to lie than to tell the truth. We lie to promote ourselves, protect ourselves and to hurt or avoid hurting others.
On the one hand, lying is extremely stressful. It causes you to be constantly looking over your shoulder and wondering who might be finding you out. You are always running through the lies you have told in your head, trying to keep track of what you have told to which person, and what is the next lie you need to tell. When you are honest, you do not have those worries or the negative consequences of your lies.
On the other hand, according to researches, the average person hears up to 200 lies a day and it is estimated that we lie up to nine times a day. Moreover, lying may seem simple and harmless at first, but just like any addiction, you will soon find yourself trapped in your lies, more than you could have ever imagined.
To sum up, we live in a world full of lies and liars and, in my opinion, I think being honest is very important because it keeps us away from problems and it helps in developing good attributes like kindness, discipline, truthfulness and moral integrity.
